National Geographic opened its annual warehouse sale Friday morning at the Oregon Convention Center.

The much anticipated official launch of the Mother PAC, a political action committee started by local moms to lobby for family-friendly policies in Salem, has arrived! This Friday, October 15 , you can eat, drink and find out how to get involved in this first-of-its-kind-in-the-nation effort. Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, co-author of “The Motherhood Manifesto” and co-founder and executive director of MomsRising.org , will be keynote speaker. It’s a great opportunity to discuss politics and motherhood –- and how the Mother PAC is mixing the two to elect Oregon legislators who support families. In a nutshell, the Mother PAC’s goal is to promote a state where families can thrive by helping get more pro-family officials elected. Their initial areas of focus include paid family and sick leave, employment-related day care, banning Bisphenol-A (BPA), and other issues of importance to families -– especially those that currently lack vocal proponents in Salem. Find out more about the Mother PAC and their legislative goals at motherpac.org . If you need childcare during the launch party, it’s available (for a fee) at nearby WeVillage, 424 NW 11th Ave. ( wevillage.com ) Tickets to the launch party are $25, but if you get them online before Thursday, October 14, you can bring a friend for free. Mother PAC Launch Party Friday, October 15 6 to 8 pm Ecotrust, 721 NW 9th Ave. motherpac.org
