Back in 2007, when we ran a feature on local moms who had started their own businesses, we were surprised to find so many entrepreneurial souls nurturing businesses as they nurtured their families. Back then, Portland Mamas, Inc. (now The Power MOB , for “ M om- O wned B usinesses”) was a relatively new organization with a very new concept – to encourage moms who own businesses to network and share resources and support. These days, The Power MOB has members throughout the Portland metro area and beyond, from individual proprietors to the owners of multi-million-dollar corporations. On Wednesday, the organization is hosting its annual Makings of a MOB Conference , and we’re proud to be counted among their sponsors. The full day of workshops and networking opportunities will offer attendees insight and advice from experienced business owners representing a wide range of industries; tips on seeking and securing publicity for your business; advice on how to balance a business and a family; opportunities to connect with some of the most influential business owners in the area; and much more. (There’s cool swag, too!) The conference is this Wednesday, September 22, but there’s still time to register . Whether you’re an experienced business owner or just thinking about launching your own biz, you can get a lot of great information and make a lot of great connections at the Makings of a MOB Conference! WHEN: September 22, 9 am to 5 pm. WHERE: University Place, 310 SW Lincoln St. HOW MUCH: $125 Power MOB members/$175 Non-Members. WHERE TO REGISTER: HERE! If you do attend, don’t forget to apply for the Power MOB’s Scholarship to Success , a comprehensive package of services and products to help one lucky mom-entrepreneur flourish as a business owner, woman and mother. And in case you were wondering, the number of local moms opening their own businesses shows no sign of winding down. That’s why this year, we’re focusing solely on local moms who design and market exceptional gear for babies and new moms in the Best in Baby Gear reviews in our annual Your Baby and You Issue, due out next week.
